SIMPLTONES A.D.

Ask any punk fan about the California Sound and they will probably mention Green Day, The Vandals, or The Adolescents. However - ask any of the musicians in these bands and they will say : The Simpletones of Rosemead.

Originally formed in 1978 - The Simpletones released one vinyl single and were included on Poshboy Records' "Beach Blvd.", one of the first and classic US Punk compilations that featured young Los Angeles and Orange County bands (also included were The Crowd and Rik L. Rik). Like many of the teenaged bands from that era, The Simpletones were short lived and disbanded early 1980.

Guitarist, songwriter and founder Jay Lansford eventually packed his bags and left the Golden State for Hannover by 1990 - where he has lived and played in several bands ever since. To mark the 30th Anniversary of The Simpletones of Rosemead Jay has joined forces with new musicians to celebrate the songs, the innocence and the attitude of Southern California Punk Rock in the late 70's by forming Simpletones A.D.

Fans old and new can look forward to hearing the hits "I Like Drugs", "California" or the classic "I Have A Date", which became a worldwide sensation after legendary punks The Vandals included a cover version of the song on their 1996 album "Live Fast - Diarrhea"

Now with Nina Groetschel on vocals, Tier Wolff (ex Cretins / Blut und Eisen) on drums und Kai Schiering (ex Terry Hoax) on bass, the Simpletones A.D. will bring the energie, power and speed of the California Sound back to the future. Their tempo ist hot, the melodies are fast and moody, ex.g. with "Kirsty Q" und "Don't bother me" they undust the songs like a pacific breeze . And with the new hits of the Simpletones A.D. (SAD) like "S.O.A.B." ( released on the Ox fanzine comp in june 2009) or "Elvis previously", the tradition lives onwards.

From the Posh Boy side:
The Simpletones, who had a moment of fame with the release of BEACH BLVD, were known for their memorable stage presence, with co-ordinated dance movements among the original 3 lead singers. The last few gigs featured just Snickers on vocals. Somehow Snickers managed to assemble an excellent band; incredibly, the last Simpletones drummer was none other than Josh Freese who went onto to become a member of The Vandals and Devo, besides constant session work with such luminaries as Axl Rose
