ZANDER SCHLOSS & SEAN WHEELER
To many underground cineaste and music lover, these men need no introduction:
Zander Schloss is not only a member of American Punk pioneers The Circle Jerks and The Weirdos, but is also well known for his long-time collaboration with Joe Strummer and made music history as the guitarist of Strummer's band The Latino Rockabilly War, in which he played together with Jack Irons (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam) and participated in many releases and tours of the legendary The Clash front man in the 1980's. Behind the scenes he left his mark especially on the world of motion pictures, contributing film music to underground movies such as "Sid and Nancy" (1986), "Straight To Hell"(1987) and "Walker" (1988), among other works of cult director Alex Cox. He could also be spotted on the screen here and there, like in "Repo Man" (1984) as "Kevin The Nerd".
All throughout the 90's he kept loyal to this scope and continued working on many a soundtrack, including "Tank Girl" (1995). He continued touring and recording not only with the Circle Jerks, but many other projects such as The Low And Sweet Orchestra with James Fearnley of the Pogues (album "Goodbuye to all that", Interscope) and made a strong impact on the Rock'n'Roll scene in 2006 as the guitarist of Die Hunns. Their album "You Rot Me", in which he took significant part as a co-writer and producer, marks the heyday of this band around Duane Peters (US Bombs) and Corey Parks (Nashville Pussy).
Sean Wheeler is the figurehead of Throw Rag, a wild bunch of Blues-Punk Rockers, that caused furore since the 90s, mainly in the states, where they have been supporting such diverse acts as Green Day, Willie Nelson or The Supersuckers, while they already convinced the European audience on their tours with The Mad Caddies, Flogging Molly and Gogol Bordello. Further on he is the voice of Charley Horse, the mad all-star Rockabilly outfit featuring Corey Parks (Nashville Pussy/Die Hunns) and Chopper Franklin (The Cramps), who also toured Germany and their album "Unholy Roller" was released on People Like You records in 2006. Sean was born and raised in the California desert, known as the hotbed for a genre later to be labelled Stoner Rock and has also recorded with musicians from this background under the name Sun Trash, backed up by members of Queens Of The Stone Age and Eagles Of Death Metal, showing the versatility of his musical output.
These two outstanding characters will commence the night and take you on a journey through original American Roots music, which will not only show another side of Zander's musical genius: Their music shines thanks to his remarkable guitar playing, but is equally fuelled by Sean Wheeler's soulful raspy voice…and will leave many a protagonist and fan of Singer-Songwriter/Americana overwhelmed with wonder…
